Merry Christmas 2007

This being the first Christmas Petra truly understood what was going on, Santa went a little nuts making sure it was memorable. I had (unfounded) concerns Petra would be overwhelmed after all the build-up and general merry-making over the last month.

I think this was our last Christmas morning at my parents....now that Mike and I are grown-ups, it's time to start helping our kid build the kind of Christmas morning memories we need to start cherishing as part of our past in her own home, with us playing the role of our parents. This was an interesting, and not altogether merry, realization for me.

That afternoon, we headed home. Mike and I set up all her toys, and as we considered all the assembly instructions, cluttered up our apartment with new toys, and listened to the delighted responses from Petra we realized these new memories have a magic and value all their own.
